“Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul.” - Plato

Ms. Garner has been involved in music education for private schools in Baltimore and Harford counties for over 30 years. She pursued schooling at Anne Arundel Community College and Towson State University, majoring in Fine Arts and Music Education. She has taught students from two years old through twelfth grade in the music classroom, vocal choir, concert band, and handbell choir. Each of the schools she has worked in have opened many opportunities for directing concerts, plays, assemblies, and competitions. Studio and private instruction have been a joy to her since 1991.

The love of music has been handed down from generations in her family. Ms. Garner has found music to be that area where even the quietest of students can shine. It is a place to learn about beauty, determination, and self acceptance. She does not consider herself an “educator” as much as an encourager; encouraging the love of learning, and providing a safe place for students to figure out their gifts and talents.

In addition to her career, Ms. Garner has raised 4 wonderful children in Parkville. Even through 4 years of homeschooling, she continued private teaching in her home. Most of her private teaching revolves around flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, and some lower brass. Flute was that very first expression of music in 1979 when she started carrying her instrument to elementary school :).
