Family-Owned Since Music Land
Music Land was founded by Joe Noto in 1971 and has grown from a local music shop into a regional destination serving musicians throughout Maryland. The timeline features Joe and his son Larry Noto, who now oversees Music Land’s day-to-day operations and continues the family’s commitment to musicians, students, schools, and the regional music community.
A Family-Owned Music Store Since 1971
Music Land has been part of the Bel Air community since 1971. What started as a local music shop has grown into an 8,000-square-foot facility where customers can buy an instrument, use our school instrument rental programs, visit our professional repair department, take private music lessons, and attend live music events—all under one roof.
Music Land was founded by Joe Noto with the idea that musicians should be helped by other musicians. Over the years, the National Association of Music Merchants, commonly known as NAMM, has recognized Music Land as a Top 100 Music Dealer and named it the winner of “Best Store Turnaround” in the music industry.
Today, the store remains family-owned and is operated by Joe’s son, Larry Noto, along with a team of musicians who genuinely know their craft.
If you have never been inside, the size and variety of the store may surprise you:
- Eight private lesson rooms
- Full repair facility
- Humidity-controlled Martin acoustic room
- A wide selection of Fender guitars, basses, and amplifiers.
- 100-seat space for live events
It is a destination for musicians from Bel Air and across the surrounding region to gather, ask questions, try gear, attend performances, and stay connected to the local music community.

Instrument Rentals Made Easy
Many parents start with an instrument rental for school band instead of investing in an instrument immediately.
Sometimes families walk in with paperwork from their child’s school. Sometimes they simply know their child needs a flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, tuba, or another band or orchestra instrument.
Either way, our staff will help you get set up and make sure you understand how the rental works before you leave.

FAQs About Music Land
Do You Offer Musical Instrument Rentals for School Band?
Yes. Many families begin with a rental. Sometimes you will have paperwork from the school, and sometimes you will simply know that your child needs a clarinet, trumpet, trombone, flute, saxophone, or another school band instrument.
Either situation is fine. We will help you select an appropriate instrument and clearly explain the rental process before you leave.
What Types of Instrument Repairs Do You Handle?
If an instrument is not playing the way it used to, that is usually reason enough to bring it in.
We work on guitars, band instruments, orchestra instruments, minor adjustments, routine maintenance, and more substantial repairs. Our technicians will examine the instrument and explain what it needs. We also do electronic repairs, such as amps.
What Ages Can Start Music Lessons?
Around age six is common, but the appropriate starting age depends on the student and the instrument.
We teach children, teenagers, and adults. Some people stay with lessons for years, while others want to become comfortable enough to play independently.
Do You Sell Used or Consignment Gear?
Yes! We have a consignment program designed to sell some of the coolest used instruments around.
It’s a great way to sell your used gear or to pick up a unique piece. We carefully vet each instrument that qualifies for our consignment program.
Our staff checks used equipment before it is placed on the sales floor.
